Four years ago to this very day Vrountas, Ayer & Chandler, P.C. opened its doors. Thank you to our loyal clients and friends who have made these last 4 years possible, and hopefully many more to come.

Anniversaries are a time to reflect and to reassess who we are and why we exist.  Many of you may have read our announcement the day we opened in which we provided our statement of values and purpose for this firm and its partners.  It bears repeating on this anniversary as we continue to adhere to these values and purpose, which can be summarized in 4 words: Respect, Responsibility, Transparency and Teamwork.

Here's an excerpt from our announcement which captures who we are and why:

"Why a new firm? Because the partners at Vrountas, Ayer & Chandler, P.C. will reemphasize the values that initially brought them together years ago, transparency and teamwork.        Business works through relationships, and relationships work on the foundation of respect and responsibility. That is true with clients, employees and business partners. Our new firm is founded on a pledge to each other and to you for full transparency and committed teamwork that can only succeed in the context of relationships founded on mutual respect and individual responsibility.

"You may have notice our firm's tag line, "You lead. We guide." The phrase is meant to capture the essence of the lawyer client relationship, and it emphasizes our respect for and commitment to your goals along with the teamwork between lawyers and clients to reach those goals.

Thank you again for your kindness and support throughout the years. We look forward to continuing our work with our clients and friends who have made this firm possible and to making new friends and clients along the way.

Sincerely,

Vrountas, Ayer & Chandler, P.C.

Allison Ayer Speaking at URMIA Conference

posted Sep 28, 2012, 7:22 AM by Adam Chandler

Our partner, Allison Ayer, will be speaking at the University Risk Management and Insurance Association’s (“URMIA”) 43rd Annual Conference, Guiding You Across the Ocean of Risk, being held in Providence, Rhode Island September 29 – October 3, 2012.  Through breakout sessions on a variety of topics, the conference offers the opportunity for attendees to gather information about the risk management trends and insurance issues facing colleges and universities.

For her breakout session, Allison will present about employment discrimination claims, including claims of sex, religion, age and disability discrimination and sexual harassment brought pursuant to Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act.  The topic is highly relevant, since in 2011, there were more private sector discrimination claims lodged in the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) than ever before. Relief to workers in 2011 exceeded $455 million, a $50 million increase from 2010.  This upward trend in the number and value of discrimination claims delivers a very real warning not only to colleges and universities, but to all employers, to take steps to prevent discriminatory conduct.

To that end, at the URMIA conference, Allison will present on providing practical tools to identify circumstances which create a higher risk to an employer facing a discrimination claim.  She will also discuss legal strategies and precedent relevant to defending discrimination lawsuits, if and when an employer does get sued.  Using practical examples, Allison will also discuss the promotion for diversity and the acceptance of the differences inherent in any modern workforce as a way to mitigate the risk, and potentially avoid altogether, employment discrimination claims.

We are very pleased to announce the formation of our new firm, Vrountas Ayer & Chandler, P.C. For those of you who have worked with us before, in many ways, very little will be new. The three partners at the firm have worked together as a group for 10 years, with a combination of over 40 years experience in our law practice. We expect to provide the same efficient and effective advocacy and responsive reporting and communication that our clients have come to expect from us over the years. We also know, like in other areas in our economy, the client always has a choice. We hope you consider us to serve your legal needs as we open our new doors.

Why a new firm? Because the partners at Vrountas Ayer & Chandler, P.C. will reemphasize the values that initially brought them together years ago, transparency and teamwork.

You may have notice our firm's tag line, "You lead. We guide." The phrase is meant to capture the essence of the lawyer client relationship, and it emphasizes our respect for and commitment to your goals along with the teamwork between lawyers and clients necessary to reach those goals.

This is truly an exciting time for us at Vrountas Ayer & Chandler, P.C. We hope to share that excitement with you and look forward to the opportunity to work with you in the years to come.

Very truly yours,

Vrountas, Ayer & Chandler, P.C.
