Wicked Twisted Lawyers and Pretzels on the Air...

Our colleague, Chris Vrountas, recently appeared as a guest on the Boston Podcast, broadcast from the Pod617 Studios in Westwood, Massachusetts.  Chris, along with friends Josh and Shawn Briggs, owners and operators of both Wicked Twisted Pretzels and Reunion Tap and Table, discussed how their passion for people and quality led them to their current careers.  They covered the challenges of operating a business during an unprecedented global pandemic and how they have continued to offer genuine hospitality during quarantine.  Despite what David Yas may say during the podcast, Chris does not accept “pretzels” as payment for services (unless they are totally Wicked Twisted).  You can listen to the full podcast here, to learn more about the lessons of how these local business people have thrived during challenging times.  Congratulations, Chris, on this unique opportunity.

Businesses across New England are slowly re-opening after months of being shut down in an effort to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Between state and federal guidelines and the real-world concerns for the health and safety of the workforce and customers, businesses will be faced with new and evolving challenges over the coming months.

Chris Vrountas Named Among America’s Top 100 “Bet-the-Company Litigators” for 2020

Vrountas, Ayer & Chandler, P.C. is proud to announce that attorney Chris Vrountas has been selected for inclusion on the list of America’s Top 100 “Bet-the-Company Litigators” ® for 2020.

America’s Top 100 identifies the top 100 qualifying business litigators in each state. Selection is based on a comprehensive process to research, analyze and assess the backgrounds of professionals across the country.  Criteria include an attorney’s lifetime legal achievements, professional experience, significant settlements and/or verdicts, peer reputation, client satisfaction, among other factors. Only attorneys who have litigated a matter with the fate of a business worth at least $2,000,000 at stake may be considered. 


Chris is a shareholder of the firm. He has a deep and wide-ranging practice.  His employment practice includes trade secret disputes and litigation over covenants not to compete, wage and hour class actions, discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination claims.  His business litigation practice covers commercial real estate, anti-trust and unfair competition claims, intellectual property claims, partnership disputes and contract matters of all sorts.  He has served as lead trial counsel before either the state or federal courts across the country. VAC Lawyers Host Webinar for Hospitality Industry on Laws Addressing COVID-19

Adam Chandler, joined by Chris Vrountas, recently hosted a webinar for the New England Inns and Resorts Association (“NEIRA”).  The webinar sought to help NEIRA members address the challenges the hospitality businesses face as a result of the coronavirus.  It focused in particular on the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and the CARES Act, two laws recently passed by U.S. Congress in response to the pandemic.  Among other things, the CARES Act provides for $350 Billion in guaranteed small business loans (capped at $10,000,000 per borrower) to help small businesses sustain operations during the coronavirus outbreak by providing for funding of qualifying payroll expenses, rent and utilities payments.  The Families First Coronavirus Response Act  requires covered employers (those with fewer than 500 employees) to provide 1) paid sick leave and/or 2) expanded family and medical leave, for specified reasons related to coronavirus, with 100% reimbursement by the government via a tax credit for leave time paid out.  More information about these and other employment laws implicated by the COVID-19 pandemic can be found on VAC’s blog Legal Line

Bar News Publishes Vrountas Article on Noncompetes

In its December issue, the New Hampshire Bar News published an article entitled Restrictive Covenants in a Border State, authored by our friend and colleague, Chris Vrountas.  The article addresses the important issue of why and how a New Hampshire employer should comply with the new Massachusetts law concerning covenants not to compete.  Congratulations, Chris.

VAC Hosting Seminar on Combatting Sexual Harassment

On May 2, 2018, Vrountas, Ayer & Chandler will be hosting a presentation at its office in Manchester, New Hampshire entitled Combatting Sexual Harassment in a Changing World.  The presentation will be targeted towards managers, supervisors, and HR professionals, as well as small business owners.  We hope to generate a frank discussion about the changing face of sexual harassment in the workplace, as well as evolving techniques to combat it.  The presentation is open to the public starting at 5:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be provided.  If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to by April 25, 2018.

Adam Chandler to Speak to MIT Students

On January 17, 2018, Adam Chandler, Class of '99, will be giving an alumni presentation to students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on how to navigate the field of restrictive employment agreements.  Perennial leaders in hi-tech fields, young MIT alumni may be working for a large company one day and starting up their own company the next.  The goal of Adam's presentation is to encourage students to consider from day one the impacts of employment agreements on their long-term goals and to comply with those agreements while accomplishing their goals.
